Library faculty recognized at Celebration of Teaching Excellence

Maoria Kirker and Wendy Mann were recognized at the 2021 Celebration of Teaching Excellence today, an annual event hosted by the Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning at Mason.

Maoria Kirker, Lead of the Teaching & Learning Team at the Libraries and adjunct faculty with the Honors College, received the Adjunct Teacher of Distinction Award. Teacher of Distinction commendations are awarded based on an instructor’s teaching innovation and excellence, commitment to their students, and mentorship activities, among other qualities. Wendy Mann, Director of the Digital Scholarship Center, received the Distinguished Library Faculty Award. The Distinguished Library Faculty Award is awarded to a library faculty member in recognition of their professional accomplishments, embodiment of the Libraries’ organizational values, and support of the Mason scholarly community. Congratulations, Mason graduates!

George Mason University will conduct its 54th Spring Commencement virtually at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 14, 2021, with First Lady Jill Biden as the featured speakerThe university-wide commencement ceremony will be live-streamed. Mason will also hold in-person graduation recognition events throughout the week leading up to Friday’s ceremony.

National Emergency Library

The Internet Archive has suspended waitlists for the 1.4 million (and growing) books in its lending library by creating a National Emergency Library. This suspension will run through June 30, 2020, or the end of the US national emergency, whichever is later. For more information, see the Internet Archive’s announcement.
