Cover Story!
A poster from Mason Libraries’ Special Collections and Archives is featured on the cover of the November 2009 issue of College & Research Libraries News (published by the Association of College & Research Libraries).
The poster image announces the 1977 East German “Children’s Film Week” in the District of Gera, which was a part of the former German Democratic Republic. The Deutsche Film–Aktiengesellschaft (DEFA), the only film company in East Germany during its existence, produced the films for the event. The festival was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Education.
Mason Libraries’ GDR Poster Archive collection includes more than 7,000 posters from East German art, film, dance, music, political, and theater organizations. For more information on Special Collections & Archives holdings, visit sca.gmu.edu.

Reference Department wins ITU Award
Fenwick Library Reference Department was recognized with the annual ITU Customer Service Excellence Team Award at the ITU Staff Meeting, November 14, 2009. The department was recognized for creating, developing and sustaining “Reference a la Carte” services since Spring 2005. Congratulations!

Fenwick Library to open late 11/14/2009
There will be a complete water outage on Saturday, November 14 from 6:00 am until 10:00 am affecting Fenwick Library wings B and C. Fenwick Library will open at 10:00 am. Questions? Contact Facilities Management at 993-2525.
