A poster from Mason Libraries’ Special Collections and Archives is featured on the cover of the November 2009 issue of College & Research Libraries News (published by the Association of College & Research Libraries).
The poster image announces the 1977 East German “Children’s Film Week” in the District of Gera, which was a part of the former German Democratic Republic. The Deutsche Film–Aktiengesellschaft (DEFA), the only film company in East Germany during its existence, produced the films for the event. The festival was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Education.
Mason Libraries’ GDR Poster Archive collection includes more than 7,000 posters from East German art, film, dance, music, political, and theater organizations. For more information on Special Collections & Archives holdings, visit sca.gmu.edu.

Due to the planned road closings in the Washington area and traffic congestion associated with Inauguration Day, the couriers and commercial delivery services that carry books for the Libraries’ Consortium Loan Service, Intercampus Lending Service, and Interlibrary Loan Service will not be operating normally on Monday, January 19 and Tuesday, January 20. This will cause slight delays receiving in requested books. Courier services should be back in regular service on Wednesday, January 21.
