Library Classes & Workshops: Fall 2009

elearningjhMason Libraries is offering a variety of instructional workshops to students, faculty, staff on each Mason campus this Fall. ticTOCS: Journal Table of Contents Service

tick ticTOCs Journal Tables of Contents service provides

  • Free access to more than12,000 scholarly journal Table of Contents (TOCs) from 435 publishers
  • The latest TOCs and links to the full text of more than 350,000 articles (where Mason Libraries subscriptions, personal subscription or Open Access permit)
  • Ability to (tic)k and save journal titles to view future TOCs
  • Free registration to ensure your MyTOCs are permanently saved
  • Ability to export TOC feeds to popular feedreaders

The ticTOCs Consortium includes the University of Liverpool Library (lead), Heriot-Watt University, CrossRef, ProQuest, Emerald, RefWorks, MIMAS, Cranfield University, Institute of Physics, SAGE Publishers, Inderscience Publishers, DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals), Open J-Gate, and Intute.  ticTOCs is a creation of JISC (UK).

  • GIS@Fenwick: 90-minute workshop provides an overview of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and discusses the GIS services and resources that are available at Mason. Topics include: What is GIS?  Why is GIS useful? Examples of GIS applications at Mason and government agencies; GIS data structure. Blackwell Journals DOWN on 2/7/2009

downThe company providing the Blackwell Synergy collection (all of the Blackwell journals) will be unavailable on Saturday, February 7, 2009. The company just announced it will be doing maintenance on its platform tomorrow, beginning at 9am (Eastern Time); maintenance may take as long as 12 hours.
